RS-232 is a serial communication standard widely used in industrial automation and control systems, but over copper its reach is limited and it is susceptible to electrical noise. In substations, switchyards and factory environments with high electromagnetic interference this leads to communication dropouts. The INTPRO 1120 removes the problem by carrying the serial link over fibre.
